New Year's Breakfast
|
|
Archer Lodge starts the year off right with a Community Breakfast held at the
Community Center on January 1st.
The event begins around 8:30 a.m. with everyone bringing a breakfast dish - sausage
biscuits, ham and eggs, bacon, muffins, orange juice, mmmmmmm
- anyway, you can smell the food for miles.
There is also a short program introducing the community leaders, welcoming new guests,
distributing awards for last year's accomplishments, and inducting
new "Archer Lodge-i-ans" into the community. What a way to start the
new year by having breakfast with your neighbors!

Reverse Raffle
|
|
The Archer Lodge Community Center held its first Reverse Raffle in
2003. The grand prize was $10,000. This event was the insight of a senior at
Clayton High School, Jenna Castleberry, and was used as her Senior Project. The
scope of her project was volunteerism in a small community versus a large
community and what you can accomplish. Her event raised close to $9,000 for the
Community Center Building Fund. We were all very proud of her efforts and
applaud her for doing such a fine deed for her community. She is now attending
Campbell University.
The Community Center voted to
make this a yearly event which is held the last Friday in February.

Family Fun Day
|
|
The "Family Fun Day" at Archer Lodge is just what the name implies - good
old-fashioned family fun.
The morning starts off around 8:00 a.m. with a "Road
Race" with trophies awarded to the winners. There are always lots of
"walkers" too, and any individual of any age may enter. There is a registration fee
which entitles you to a family fun day T-shirt for taking part in
the road race. There is a parade held at 11:00 a.m. which is great
fun for everyone, so decorate your own entry and be a part of the
parade. During the day, there are lots of activities: lunch consisting of B-B-Q from the
annual Pig Cook Off Contest, games for the children, homemade
ice cream, cake walk, ball games, horseshoe tournaments (with
a trophy awarded to the winner).
There is also a mayor election held throughout the day and the announcement of
the winner during the evening events. The evening entertainment is held around
7:00 p.m. before the fireworks which are a spectacular view drawings crowds of people.
It is the only time during the year Archer Lodge has a traffic jam! Make sure to
thank our Volunteer Fire Department
who make this event safe and fun for all.
